“I was baptized in rock ’n’ roll,” says Troy Romzek, head entertainer at 1923 Prohibition Bar at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. You can catch the born musician every Friday and Saturday night at the speakeasy hot spot during the NOLA Nights show—a New Orleans-inspired party where Romzek plays the piano and sings jazz and blues.

“When I was 10 years old, I went to see Bruce Springsteen,” Romzek recalls. “I walked away from the concert going, ‘Oh my god, I have to figure out how to do that!’” Romzek spent the next two decades in entertainment, including acting and playing in bands at clubs around L.A. “I was able to flip this music thing into a living,” he says.

Three years ago, Romzek moved to Las Vegas to expand his career and ended up joining 1923 Prohibition Bar. “You ain’t gonna find an atmosphere like this,” he says. “We have a beautiful place. You can’t be bored here.”

When you meet Romzek, he’s about the furthest thing from boring. This man has lots of energy and just an infectious vibe, and his music and performances at NOLA Nights reflects that. “Sounds a little crazy, but whether it’s from the higher being or power or God—for some reason I’m good at music and I like to think it was gifted, and it’s like a responsibility. Anytime I hit the stage, people leave here happy—if I can make a couple people smile, I did my job.”
