Chris Rodrigues gladly welcomes everyone to join in the fun of Temptation Sundays, the Strip’s first LGBT-themed daylife experience and one of the most popular pool parties in the city.

For the past eight years, Rodrigues has been a cabana host at Luxor, and five years ago, he watched a small gathering of the LGBT community at the pool turn into one of the hottest tickets in town. In the span of two years, Temptation Sundays moved from a small, secluded area of the pool out onto the main deck in order to accommodate the influx of guests.

“We’re in our fifth season, and it’s gotten huge,” said the Honolulu native. “It’s a fun time, not too wild and crazy, just fun crazy.”

Temptation keeps it fresh by throwing themed parties throughout the season, including playing host, along with Luxor, for Las Vegas’ Gay Days this year. And it’s Rodrigues and the rest of his team that are “doing anything in our power to make sure guests are taken care of.”

After a dozen years in Las Vegas—some spent bartending, too—the married father of two practices a consistent work ethic. “If I’m slammed, I just take a deep breath,” he said. “Guest interaction always has to be top-notch. You have to have great people-reading skills in order to take care of someone’s need. You have be able to turn someone’s day around. You have to be able to handle this hot sun. And, you have to have a big smile.”

Leave it to Temptation Sundays to have some appropriately named cocktails. The Boy Toy Crush is perfect to sip on during pool time dalliances, plus it’s just fun to tell people what you’re drinking. The Boy Toy Crush mixes Absolut Citron vodka, sweet and sour mix, rock candy syrup, fresh blackberries, muddled mint leaves and Sierra Mist.
