Infusing magic with quick change, Léa Kyle has amazed audiences on stage and screen. Winning multiple magic competitions, receiving Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent, and earning the FU Trophy on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Kyle has become known as one of the best quick-change acts in the game. Now, she’s appearing on the America’s Got Talent Las Vegas Live stage.

Have you always had your sights set on performing live in Las Vegas?

My goals have evolved over time. At first, I just wanted the opportunity to perform and improve my magic. I was very far from imagining Vegas at that time. Then gradually I said to myself, one day, I would perform in Vegas. If someone had told me (I would achieve that goal) when I started the magic, I wouldn’t have believed it. And yet, it’s true.

What do you do to have fun in Vegas?

I admit that I work (on) my magic a lot at home, and that’s what amuses me! What I like to do in Vegas is see shows; those of Cirque du Soleil are incredible, and there are many magic shows that are worth seeing. The best shows I’ve seen are in Vegas. Also, seeing exhibitions, drinking a coffee in a casino, and going to the swimming pool. It’s impossible to get bored in Vegas! I would love to visit the desert, it will be my next visit!

Has your television experience shaped the way you perform?

I will say yes and no. When participating in a TV show, the work of an act is completely different than for a live act. … Although, TV shaped my performance because my magic effects are linked faster; there is less dead time than before. But on the other hand, I’ve always wanted to present acts that look like me. I like working on novelty, creativity, and freshness. So, TV show or live, it is essential for me to find these three things.

In creating a new quick change, does the fashion inspire the magic, or is it the other way around?

Again, both! Although, very often, I first have a magic effect in mind and then I create a dress design based on this magic effect. Sometimes a dress design gives me an idea of a magic effect. I am inspired by everything from painting to fashion shows to nature, etc.

Who has influenced your act the most?

My boyfriend Florian Sainvet. He is a magician for Cirque du Soleil’s Mad Apple and he is the one who made me discover magic. We work together on the creation, staging and preparation of my acts. He specializes in sleight-of-hand magic, and although very different from the quick change, his vision of magic inspired and influenced me a lot in the creation of new quick changes.
