If you’re looking for beautiful ladies in every direction, spend your Saturdays at the Hard Rock Hotel. It’s there that Rehab, the property’s pool oasis, turns into a sea of bikinis for the Rehab Bikini Invitational, a monthly contest that crowns one lucky lady in September. Playboy Playmate (and Hugh Hefner wife) Crystal Hefner mans the decks as the resident DJ for the invitational, which brings her back to town on June 14 for round two of the contest. Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato recently sat down with the blond bombshell to talk shop.

First off, congrats to you and Mr. Hefner—how’s married life been?

Married life is awesome. We’ve almost been married two years; it will be two years on New Year’s Eve. We lived together for four years before, so you know, it’s the same. But I know that we’re really happy, and Hef reminds me every day that this is the happiest that he’s ever been. He’s really just a great person.

Let’s talk about your residency at Rehab. How did it come about?

I don’t even know how this happened exactly. (laughs) I believe Ray, my manager, is friends with people (at Hard Rock Hotel). I am just so happy and thankful. I know Hef is super excited about the residency, too. He said one of his partners in the Playboy Club, (Arnie) Morton, was connected to the Hard Rock Hotel, so it’s like full circle. Him and Morton were buddies, they did the Playboy Clubs together. But, yes, I’m just super excited.

You kicked off your residency on May 10. How has it been going so far?

I bring all my friends with me. We make a really fun day out of it. All my girls, a lot of the Playmates, come with me! It makes it more fun to bring them all—everyone’s in their bikinis and dancing. Lots of eye candy!

How did you get into DJing?

When I first moved into the (Playboy) mansion, I think it was 2008, I started DJ-ing. My parents were in a band and so I would go and see them all the time, and my mom actually DJ’d in the band for my dad and between sets and stuff. So my mom was a DJ. … We have so many parties at the mansion—the Halloween party, Midsummer’s party, the masquerade party—so we always have DJs coming in and out. So, between all of that, I feel like I got the best education and experience. We have a resident DJ at the mansion, too. His name is DJ Crash; he’s been my mentor. I kind of dabbled in it, and I caught on quick, and now here we are!

How do you feel when you’re in the DJ booth, performing for the crowd?

It feels so good! I love reading the crowd. I don’t preplan any of my sets. I guess I love the anxiety of not knowing what’s coming next. So I’ll just load up a song while another one is going … it’s cool to see the (crowd) reactions. I think that’s a big part of DJ-ing, to be able to read the crowd.

Are there any songs that you always make sure to play during your set?

Probably my own songs: “Call the Cops” and “Club Queen.” And, whatever is the hit, like that “Selfie” song—whatever is fun and people are into at the moment. I like the fun, crazy songs that gets everyone moving. I guess I’m a crowd-pleaser!
