The Lipshtick comedy series at The Venetian, which highlights female comedians, features plenty of young talent, including people like Fortune Feimster, Cameron Esposito, Iliza Shlesinger and series co-founder Whitney Cummings. But Lipshtick’s curators have also shown respect to veteran female comedians, exemplified by the double bill of Caroline Rhea and Elayne Boosler.

Both are stand-up lifers who’ve performed since the 1980s (Boosler starting a few years before Rhea), and both have done plenty of time in small roles in movies and TV, often livening up otherwise mediocre projects. (Coincidentally, both had small roles in Meatballs sequels.)

Between them, they have multiple decades of experience, and they have no trouble speaking their minds. Rhea’s onstage persona is a bit sweeter and less confrontational, and Boosler is more likely to tackle politics (she was a regular guest on Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect). But both are brassy performers who know how to work an audience, and they’ll be up there showing younger comedians a thing or two about how it’s done.
