There’s brunch in the morning. The convention in the afternoon. Dinner in the evening. And, of course, the party at night. When you’re in Las Vegas, there’s plenty to do—so you better look and feel your best. And while the Strip is practically saturated with ’tini-serving blow-out bars and salons by celeb-stylists, what’s a guy to do when he needs to refresh? It might take a little more work to find, but Las Vegas is well equipped for men’s grooming, and you’ll find that your options are as luxurious as they get.

For taming your mane, old-school barbershops can’t be beat. They’re as much about great hairstyles as they are the atmosphere, the attention to service and the little extras, like a cold beer, hot lather or good conversation. They tend to specialize in the classic cuts that are oh-so-trendy right now—because chances are, the guy with the scissors has been offering those same cuts since JFK was in office. You’ll find a particularly old-school feel at a barber shop like the Celebrity Club at the Riviera, where you’ll find photos harkening to Vegas’ past and quickly learn that many a celebrity, from Robert Redford to MC Hammer, has come through.

If you’re looking for a couple of extra services with your haircut—say, a brow trim or wax, you also might want to look into a resort’s salon or spa. Spas like Canyon Ranch SpaClub at The Venetian’s Barber Suite or Qua at Caesars Palace have a classically trained barber on staff, but offer a few extra amenities from the spa/salon side of things. A well-, but not overly, groomed brow line can help frame your facial features.

Perhaps more than a cut, the wet shave with a straight razor is arguably the best part of visiting a traditional barbershop or one of the Art of Shaving locations at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, The Forum Shops at Caesars or The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian & The Palazzo. And since modern razors have gotten out of hand with extra blades, motors and other gizmos, it’s also the part many guys haven’t experienced. A wet shave starts off with a hot towel, which opens your pores and prevents razor burn, followed by some pre-shave oil and a warm, gentle soap for your face. The shave itself should take two passes (with and against the grain)—straight razors are so sharp, they don’t have to keep attacking the same stubborn spot of facial hair. A cold towel closes pores and prevents skin-related blemishes, while a balm or oil revitalizes skin.

A great shaving session should feel like a spa day for your face, but a spa treatment for the rest of you keeps your skin and body at their best. Many spas have a men’s section in their services menu, featuring treatments like the Men’s Purifying Facial at ESPA at Vdara, which is specifically formulated to balance and hydrate men’s skin. For a weary body, go for Spa Bellagio’s Athlete’s Revival. It’s intended for athletes, but since a night out on the town can feel like a workout the next morning, we won’t judge. It works all your major muscle groups and uses hot stones to relax tight areas, followed by CryoDerm gel to relieve the tissue.
