Fans of ’90s rock have always had reasons to love Fremont Street Experience’s summer concert series, but the upcoming lineup of Fuel, Drowning Pool, Royal Bliss and Local H on Aug. 30 is a particularly strong showcase of the decade’s harder hits.

Fuel first made waves with their late ’90s radio hit “Shimmer,” but the alt-rock group has had its share of roster shakeups in the years since. Fuel carried on without founding vocalist/guitarist Brett Scallions for a time, while this most recent incarnation, started in 2010, features Scallions as the only founding member. Their most recent album, Puppet Strings, has been well-received by critics and should have a major presence in their live show.

Drowning Pool is probably best known for the controversial track “Bodies,” although the band’s recent work has taken more of a contemporary heavy metal approach since its early nu metal days. The band’s latest album, Resilience, debuted new vocalist Jasen Moreno and featured the single “In Memory Of,” a tribute to deceased original vocalist Dave Williams.
